Instinct Review

phone

I had the chance of playing around with an Sprint Instinct for the past couple of days. I think the phone is pretty good, but it does not live up to the hype of all the commercials. It also is not better than Iphone/G1.

Keyboard – Just like the Iphone the Instinct has a touch screen keyboard. The keyboard has horizontal typing, vertical typing, and a small stylus for drawing to text. After you get used to the keyboard you can type at a pretty satisfying speed. I would say about 15 WPM.

Web Surfing – Decent, but not exciting. When I played with it the pages downloaded quite slowly. The phone has two modes. The first is mobile mode, and the second is computer mode. The mobile mode shows web pages best fitted to the phone, and the computer mode shows them like you would see on your computer at home. I tried out twitter on the browser, and had to accept at least 20 security certificates before I could do anything, which was quite annoying. After that things flowed pretty smoothly, and a was able to register and do a few tweets.  The screen is small though, and you lack the easy Iphone gestures to mode around the page.

Live TV – This is a great features that does not appear on many other phones. You can watch News, Cartoon Network, and MTV. The included channel list is very slim. You can add more channels for another $10 a month, which is costly considering you might not be watching TV all the time on your phone.

Despite my bashing the Instinct is an ok phone. If you are locked in with Sprint I suggest you get the Instinct. If you are not, its no dream phone.
